서울미술관이 개관전으로 ‘“둥섭, 르네상스로 가세!”- 이중섭과 르네상스 다방의 화가들’을 열고 있다. 이번 전시는 1952년 12월 부산 르네상스다방에서 열렸던 이중섭, 한묵, 박고석, 이봉상, 손응성의 기조 동인전 60주년을 기념해 열리는 것으로, 우리 근대미술의 금자탑이라 할 수 있는 이들 기조 동인 다섯 작가와 정규의 예술적 성취를 재조명하는 전시다.

이번 전시에 출품된 이중섭의 주요 작품으로는 <황소>, <길 떠나는 가족>, <자화상> 등이 있다. 유화와 에나멜페인트 그림 외에 1940년대의 드로잉과 양면화, 은지화도 전시되고 있다. 기조 동인의 유일한 생존 작가인 한묵의 작품으로는 <모자상>, <일월이 있는 정물> 등 다양한 예술적 실험이 돋보이는 그림들이 출품되었다. 산의 화가 박고석은 <소>와 <비 온 뒤> 등 미공개 추상화가 출품되어 눈길을 끈다. 구상과 추상을 넘나든 이봉상의 <형제>와 <환>, 사실주의적인 표현이 돋보이는 손응성의 <석류>, 향토적 소재를 추상으로 재해석한 정규의 <함> 등도 놓칠 수 없는 우리 근대미술의 걸작이다.
작품 전시와 함께 1950~60년대 다방 전람회에 관한 자료전과 50년대 다방의 모습을 재현한 설치전이 함께 구성되어 당시의 미술문화공간으로서 다방에 대한 시대적 경험을 공유해 볼 수 있다.

Seoul Museum is showing “Lee, Jung Seob and Artists in Renaissance Cafe”, their grand opening exhibition. In celebration of its sixtieth anniversary of exhibition of ‘Ki Zo’(Ki Zo means Basis) group which took place at Busan Renaissance Cafe in December 1952, this particular exhibition revisits the artistic achievements of legendary five artists of ‘Ki Zo’ group and Chung, Kyu.

Main pieces of Jung-seob Lee are <Yellow Bull>, <A Family on their Road>, and <Self-Portrait>. His 1940s’ drawings, double-sided paintings, and silvered-paper paintings are also included along with his oil and acrylic paintings as well. By presenting <Mother and Son>, <Still life with Sun and Moon> Painted by Han Mook, the only living artist, the visitors can see his idea and experiment of pure art. Moreover, undisclosed abstract works of the mountain painter, Ko-suk Park,, are exhibited. <Brother> and <Transformation>, painted by Pong-sang Ree are between concrete and abstract art. Eung-sung Son’s <Pomegranate>, highlights his deep understanding of realism while Chung, Kyu’s <The Korean Case> shows reinterpretation of Korean native themes in the forms of abstraction.
Along with the opening exhibition, also there is a showroom of 1950s styled Korean cafe and it is another attraction for visitors. It will bring visitors back to Korean cafe in 50s, which represents many aspects of art and culture at that time.
