KWON Jin-kyu Museum

  호반의 도시 춘천에 박수근, 이중섭과 함께 한국 근대미술의 대표적인 조각가, 권진규미술관이 개관했다. ‘권진규와 여인’은 개관 기념전으로, 이번 전시에서는 일본에서 함께했던 동료이자 연인 도모의 얼굴을 담아낸 석조 작품과 테라코타, 건칠로 된 여인상과 자소상 등 30여 점이 소개되고 있다.

 테라코타 인물상은 그의 지인을 모델로 한 경우가 대부분으로, <지원의 얼굴>, <상경>, <순아> 등 대부분의 작품명이 모델의 이름 그대로이며, 제작된 지 40년 이상 지난 지금도 작품에서 모델의 특징을 쉽게 확인할 수 있어 사실주의 조각의 정수로 평가된다. 얼굴의 골격, 얼굴에 감도는 생기 등 모델의 이상적인 조형이 그대로 표현되어 있기 때문이다.

권진규의 작업과정이담긴 작업메모와 드로잉 회화와 영상기록물들과함께 구성된 이번 개관기념전을 통해 서양 근대 조각에 ‘전신사조’와 같은 동양 미학을 융합시켜 한국적 사실주의를 정립시키려 한 그의 정신과 업적을 살펴볼 수 있을 것이다.

  The KWON Jin-kyu Museum opened in the lakeside city of Chunchen in Gangwon province. Jin-kyu KWON is recognized as one of the 3 great artists along with Soo-keun PARK and Jung-seop LEE. ‘Jinkyu KWON and Woman’ is the opening exhibition of KWON Jin-kyu Museum with 30 works;<Tomo>, <The Face of Ji-won>, <Sanggyeong> and <Sun-a>, using terracotta and lacquer.

The terracotta figures were modeled with his acquaintances inspiration. In most cases, the name of his works are the same as the model's name. It is considered to be the essence of the sculptures in realism as we can easily recognize the characteristics of his models even now, after 40 years since their creation.

 Comprised of memos, drawings, paintings and video clips, the exhibition will give you an insight into Jin-kyu KWON’s artistic spirit and his achievements. Endeavored to find Korean realism by fusing Oriental aesthetics like ‘spiritual trends’ and modern western sculpture. Jin-kyu’s exhibition will give you an opportunity to have great experiences with these great Korean realism art sculptures.
